According to my timeline the time to narrow down the guest list is coming up and I am not looking forward to this daunting task. There is a lot of pressure to invite everyone we know to the wedding, especially when half the people who were not going to make the list think it is ok to flat out ask if they are invited! How rude! You'll know if you are invited when you do or do not receive an invitation. I would love to have a 250 person wedding but I also would rather not go bankrupt for this day.
While googling on advice on how to narrow the guest list I came across this quiz on CNN. The following 10 questions are used to trim that guest list and weed out the people you really don't want at your wedding ensureing that the people you do celebrate with are loved ones who are invested in your past, present and future.
1) Name the city I'm living in now (Good one to weed folks out, especially if you have moved a lot. Don't use this if you've lived in the same place for 10 years).
2) Name at least two of my closest friends.
3) Name my current employer and my past employer (Again, if you've remained in the same job for 15 years, this does not apply).
4) Do I have any kids?
5) Do you know the name of my fiancé? Bonus question: Where and when did we meet?
6) Do you know where my parents are and whether they are still alive? (Imagine a friend at your wedding asking how long have your parents been married when they divorced years ago).
7) Name at least two of my hobbies.
8) How old am I? (My favorite is when family friends would query, 'Are you 28 now?" Imagine their surprise when I proclaimed, 'yeah, 10 years ago!')
9) Where did I go to college? (Some people might not remember whether you attended college or even graduated.)
10) Name my last boyfriend/girlfriend before this engagement. Bonus question: if you can name the last two and why we broke up. If you get the bonus question right, that might automatically get you in.
CNN suggests the following to help determine who gets invited:
If you score 50 percent or below, you definitely are not getting invited.
If you score barely over 50 percent, you are on the waiting list. If someone who scored better than you cannot attend, you might get an invitation. This barely acceptable person who might be invited may get you a great gift because of their guilt for scoring so low.
If you score over 60 percent, you get an invitation.
How did you score?

Is vegetarianism a hobby? If not, I might have to attend this thing as someone else's plus-one - assuming you are allowing for plus-ones.
ReplyDeleteNo, Wayne, if you are on the grooms side then you have to do the quiz for EJ. Do you pass if the questions apply for EJ?
ReplyDelete1. EJ and Sara - Woodland Hills (where EJ got his 1st bee sting)
ReplyDelete2. EJ and Sara - each other and whomever posts the most on their respective Facebook walls
3. EJ - Medtronic (don't know past), Sara - Real Estate.com? (don't know past)
4. EJ - none that the family openly speaks of, Sara - none
5. EJ and Sara. They met at high school and I remember two stories. One involves a food fight and the other involves EJ kicking Sara's hair when sitting behind her in home ec. Two stories, both equally boring.
6. EJ and Sara - both sets still alive and doing well somewhere in Ventura County
7. EJ - ballin' and being the overall awesome stud that he is, Sara - eating veggies and crocheting
8. EJ and Sara - 23?
9. EJ - runner ups to UCLA in the Pac-10 this football season, Sara - UCSB
10. EJ - no names but he broke up with his last 2 exes because one had man-hands and the other was a close talker
Sara - no names, but probably broke up with them because they ate too many cute animals
Unless partial credit is given, I'm afraid I will not be attending that magical day.
ReplyDeleteI'd give you a 65% Wayne. Some completely wrong while others with some inaccuracies (but I'd give partial credit on those). Extra credit for #7 but big penalty for the preposterous response on #9.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure I'm getting invited. I got like, 105%...I counted the bonus questions as extra! Plus, I can answer almost all of them for EJ too!
ReplyDeleteWoohoo!
Nice Sommer! We decided that the bridal party should have to get a 100%, so you are good!
ReplyDeleteI dont even have to answer this because sara and ej both know that I would get 100% on each person's quiz. true story.
